Welcome!                         Bookmark this website
Welcome to the website of Lake St. Louis Squadron. We are a division of Canadian Power & Sail Squadrons (CPS), which is a national, not-for-profit organization of volunteers dedicated to teaching safe, responsible boating. Our focus is on good seamanship and in-depth navigational skills.

CPS has existed for over 70 years and has approximately 30,000 members, coast-to-coast.

VHF marine radios
require an operators permit “Restricted Operator’s Certificate (Marine)”. The Coast Guard and other authorities have been issuing warnings and fines to boaters who do not have this permit. Several courses are being offered leading to this certificate. See What’s New for details

The Pleasure Craft Operator Card (PCOC) is now required for all operators of motorized pleasure craft. CPS offers two courses leading to the PCOC, Boating Basics & Boating.

The Approved Boating Handbook and the seminar prepares you for the Pleasure Craft Operator Card (PCOC) exam. The best of the PCOC seminars available, this highly acclaimed seminar was one of the first to be accredited by the Canadian Coast Guard.

Crossing the border? CPS is a provider of safe boating courses approved by both Transport Canada and the U.S. National Association of State Boating Law Administrators.

More advanced courses such as Seamanship, Advanced Piloting, and Junior Navigator are available and build on the knowledge gained in Boating.

In addition, we offer several elective courses. These include VHF Marine Radio, and Sailing. Boat Pro or Boating are suggested prerequisites.

Looking Ahead

Plans for the year so far include quick help with National Safe Boating week from May 19-25; the Graduation night May 31 at the RSTYC; a recruiting drive with the RSLYC on June 16th; planning boat flotillas as part of “Sailtice” on June 23-24 to celebrate boating and the summer solstice; helping teach some junior sailors on specific dates in July and August; the District BBQ in August; and as always, helping encourage friends and acquaintances to join the CPS and add more courses to their training program.

Our association with the RStLYC dates back several decades and will remain in place as our home club for the foreseeable future where we hold all our classes, meetings, graduation ceremonies and other events. As part of this relationship, we will be clearly visible at the June open house with a booth for all visitors and RStLYC’s members.

The Bridge and I invite you to participate fully in this open house. Furthermore, we hope that you will invite your friends as well as any potential boaters. This event will allow us to show-off our capabilities in the beautiful summer conditions at the RStLYC, instead of the usual parking lot encircled with banks of snow and wintering boats on land.

Together with the RSTLYC, we are looking forward to attracting new members to the Squadron as well as enrol new students to our summer and fall courses.
You will need to pre-register with the RSTLYC in order to be able to attend. I invite you to visit the Club’s web-site, www.RSTLYC.ca , and follow the link to the registration page. Please register promptly as places are limited and don’t forget to invite your friends by forwarding this email to them.

We also look forward to seeing you at the Graduation Night on May 31st at 1930 hrs. The RSTLYC is offering dinner to our Lac St. Louis Squadron members before the graduation ceremonies. The Club will be holding its Italian Pasta Night, at the same price as their members at $20+15% gratuities + taxes (about $26). Should you wish to join us at dinner, you will need to confirm to me by May the 20th or before.
Best regards,

Cdr. Robert Gales
