Canada Day 2006
Cake and Balloons
Nancy MacLeod S
Lake St. Louis squadron of Canadian Power and Sail Squadrons helped
celebrate Canada Day at Millennium Park in Dorval. Across from the
children’s area was great, as we gave out balloons to the little
(and some not so little) ones, and did a lot of public relations.
Lake St. Louis shimmered in the background, awaiting the fireworks
to come later.
Members of the amateur radio club, directed by CPS member Jim Hay
provided communications security on the site, as well as operation a
short wave radio station.
Later the boys were out on the lake providing security for the
fireworks display, which was launched from a barge moored off shore.
The safe distance of the barge off shore was verified by GPS from
the shoreline location taken previously. The volunteer members Bill
Halliday and Dick Olszewski provided their boats, and secured a 600
foot radius from the barge using a GPS proximity alert, after taking
a fix on the fireworks barge. It was a fabulous show.
All who volunteered had a great day and a little Canada Day birthday
cake as well. What a wonderful way to kick off the summer!
