Welcome to the website of Lake St. Louis Squadron. We are a division of
Canadian Power & Sail Squadrons (CPS), which is a national,
not-for-profit organization of volunteers dedicated to teaching safe,
responsible boating. Our focus is on good seamanship and in-depth
navigational skills.
CPS has existed for almost 60 years and has approximately 30,000
members, coast-to-coast.
We have been mandated by federal authorities to teach and test for the
Pleasure Craft Operator Competency (PCOC) card, and the VHF marine radio
operator's licence. The Lake St. Louis Squadron also offers several
other courses that help boaters navigate safely as they enjoy a fine day
out on the water.
Our introductory course is called
Boating.
Successful completion of this course provides the student with the PCOC
card, as well as CPS membership. More advanced courses, such as
Piloting,
Advanced Piloting, and
Celestial Navigation
are then available and build on the knowledge gained in Boating.
In addition, we offer several elective courses, which are open to
non-members, as well as members. These include
Weather,
Seamanship Sail,
or
Extended Cruise
Planning.
Help Wanted
Like most
volunteer organizations, we are constantly on the lookout for new
members who are willing to assist in the operation of the squadron. If
you are a member of CPS now, or planning to take a course and become a
member, and you can spare an hour or two per month, please contact
Commander Alan Smith, or Training Officer Kim Potter. We would be
delighted to discuss with you the various ways in which you could
contribute to the activities of the squadron.
